About
Studio Deux is the brainchild of Kim Vogel and Dirk Rossbach. We are a creative studio specializing in brand strategy, art direction, illustration and graphic design. New ideas and transformative experiences are at the heart of our work.
We believe in creating authentic, emotionally driven work that functions for our clients goals and resonates with their audiences. We partner with brands and innovators in music, art, fashion, and sustainability to influence culture. We share a vision: to tell unique stories, challenge assumptions, and inspire positive change.
Kim Vogel
Even as a child, Kim used pen, brush, and paper to immerse herself in other worlds and express things for which words were inadequate. After graduating from high school, the Offenbach native studied communication design in Wiesbaden, specializing in illustration and typography. Influenced by Frankfurt's hip-hop culture, dancing the night away at Robert Johnson's, and exploring the Rhine-Main region, she developed her own style.
After graduating, she moved to Berlin, where she worked as an illustrator, graphic designer and art director for renowned agencies such as MetaDesign, SelectNY, Zum goldenen Hirschen and BBDO. Her illustrations play a central role in her work, be it in editorials, campaigns or branding. With a mixture of conceptual clarity and artistic signature, she gives projects a distinctive visual identity.
In her spare time, the fashion lover and sneaker collector continues to indulge her creative side by decorating her friends with her own hand-poke tattoos. Kim enjoys getting lost in the woods on long runs with her dog.
Dirk Rossbach
The need to express himself, to share his thoughts, feelings and ideas, and to better understand his own identity has always driven Dirk's creative work. With close ties to Cologne's music and art community, he developed the idea of a platform for art and design around the turn of the millennium. Supported by like-minded artists, photographers, and writers, he eventually published an online magazine for several years.
Around the same time, he started working as a graphic designer for Groove Attack, where he witnessed the rise of hip-hop in Germany and the success of labels like Aggro Berlin. In the early 2010s, he moved to Berlin. As part of his work for Groove Attack, Rough Trade, and Believe, he created campaigns for some of today's most successful artists, including CRO, RAF Camora, Milky Chance, Placebo, and Grammy award winners Sly & Robbie.
And even though it's been a while since the trade, he's still super excited that Luka Dončić is now wearing a Lakers jersey.
How it started
When we first met two years ago, it quickly became clear that we had a special chemistry and shared the same enthusiasm for art and design. We began to spend more time together, visiting exhibitions and discussing artistic processes. We looked at the work of performance artist Tehching Hsieh with a mixture of admiration and disbelief, and talked about coordinates like discipline, rhythm, and structure. In the process, we reflected on our own relationship to creative work and artistic freedom.
An intense exchange of ideas began. We worked on our first joint projects, attended workshops and experimented with different printing techniques. As time went on, we started talking more and more about the idea of setting up a studio together. What began as a quiet thought became louder and louder and matured into a concrete project.
Last summer we spent a week in the south of France, taking a boat up the Canal du Midi. The remoteness and barrenness of the landscape provided the perfect backdrop for strategic planning and future projections. Between Argens-Minervois and our destination, Bram, the decision was made: we would stop hesitating, pluck up our courage and embark on an adventure together. No longer alone, but together. Not one, but deux [dø].
Studio Deux was born. Collectively, we have decades of experience in the industry. We are in love with the idea of bridging the gap between art and design, combining analog and digital techniques and creating unconventional concepts.
